Joe Rogan, who voted for President Donald Trump in 2024, pulled no punches this week when he went after Trump voters, calling them “rabid” and “f*cking nuts.”
The podcast titan made the remarks during a lengthy conversation with fellow comedian Ron White. The two discussed the MAGA backlash to country music star Jelly Roll, who made some cracks about Trump while guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live in late August.
Rogan came to Jelly Roll’s defense, describing him as a great guy and chalking the jokes up to standard stand-up material. “But, you know, if you know Jelly Roll, he’s a great guy. It’s just that kind of monologue, stand-up stuff. It is funny seeing all the different times Trump called people fat, though,” Rogan said, adding, “That is f*cking hilarious.”
Then Rogan turned his sights on the president’s base. “But you know, Trump supporters are f*cking nuts, man. They’re rabid. He represents something other than just a person to them,” he said.
The criticism is notable given Rogan’s history with the president. He famously sat down with Trump during the 2024 campaign but did not end up doing an interview with Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris. Trump’s inroads with the so-called podcaster “manosphere” were widely credited with helping him reach young men and run up his margin over Harris.
Rogan went on to say Trump represents “a leader that they wish they had,” and White agreed. Rogan called that a real problem in society when it comes to leaders in general.
“We look to them as if there’s something different than every other person that’s ever been a leader before. Like, this is the one. This is the one that’s going to save us,” Rogan argued.
White replied that some people are hopeless, and that they will follow anyone who promises to give them hope. “Right. And you know what? Some people are hopeless, and there’s anybody that says, well, I’ll give you hope,” he said.
White then said he has told people more than once that anyone who wants to improve their lot in life but doesn’t have much, including an education, should look to Sen. Bernie Sanders. He said such a person should be “Bernie f*cking Sanders, you know, who’s your guy,” because Sanders wants to get the minimum wage up.
White also offered a blunt reality check. “You think somebody’s going to come in and hand you a bunch of loot. That’s never going to happen,” he said.
