Three U.S. Secret Service officials were reportedly placed on administrative leave Tuesday as the agency investigates possible misconduct, according to a spokesperson.
The Office of Professional Responsibility is handling the investigation, though the circumstances surrounding the probe were not immediately disclosed. The spokesperson confirmed that all three officials served in non-law enforcement positions.
“The U.S. Secret Service is committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in fulfilling our zero-fail mission of protecting the President and other high-level government officials,” the spokesperson said.
The agency added that its work requires personnel to demonstrate an “unwavering commitment to duty, honesty, and courage” and pledged to continue pursuing excellence worthy of the responsibility entrusted to it by the American people.
The development comes one month after an agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance was placed on administrative leave over allegations that sensitive information had been leaked.
That action followed an MS NOW report detailing alleged frustrations within Vance’s security detail over last-minute travel and assignments. The report relied on unnamed current and former Secret Service agents and administration officials.
The agency has faced heightened public scrutiny following multiple assassination plots targeting President Donald Trump, including an attempted attack at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in April.
The Secret Service also helped secretly transfer Trump from the old Air Force One to another aircraft while he departed Turkey last month amid an Iranian threat. Some staff members and members of the press remained aboard the original aircraft without knowing what had happened.
The unusual plane switch raised concerns about the president’s security during international travel.
