Report Reveals Meghan Markle Allegedly Eyed Kamala Harris’ Senate Seat Before Newsom Appointment

Meghan Markle reportedly had her sights set on a seat in the United States Senate, according to a new report detailing the Duchess of Sussex’s alleged political ambitions after moving to California with Prince Harry.

The New York Post reported that Markle was interested in the Senate seat vacated by former Vice President Kamala Harris and allegedly sought consideration for an appointment to the position.

According to a source cited by the Post, Markle held a meeting with California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom just weeks before the 2020 presidential election because she “wanted to be considered to be appointed.”

Newsom’s office reportedly has a record of the meeting, although the conversation was characterized at the time as a “welcome to California” discussion.

It remains unclear whether Newsom ever seriously considered Markle for the Senate appointment.

A Sussex source denied the claim that Markle was pursuing Harris’ vacant seat. Representatives for the Duchess of Sussex did not immediately respond to The Daily Wire’s request for comment.

The alleged Senate interest was not the only reported interaction between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and prominent American political figures.

In 2021, Harry and Markle allegedly sought a meeting with then-President Joe Biden and requested accommodations at Blair House, which is typically reserved for diplomatic leaders, according to the Post. The request was denied.

Markle addressed speculation about her political ambitions in 2025 when she was asked whether she was interested in seeking elected office.

She initially responded, “I mean you could say, never say never …” when pressed on whether she would really “never” run. Markle then quickly reiterated, “No. Never.”

Harry and Markle had already attracted attention during the 2020 presidential campaign after making public comments that some observers interpreted as supportive of the Biden-Harris ticket.

British royals traditionally refrain from commenting on American politics or endorsing political candidates.

“Every four years we are told the same thing, that this is the most important election of our lifetime,” Markle said in a September 2020 video message. “But this one is.”

She added that voting puts people’s values into action and allows their voices to be heard.

Harry, who said he could not vote in the U.S. and had never been able to vote in the United Kingdom, also addressed the upcoming election.

“As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity,” Harry said.

The latest report comes as the couple is reportedly preparing to move back to the United Kingdom after spending the past six years living in the United States.

The move follows several lifestyle and entertainment ventures, including an abandoned podcast and a nine-figure Netflix agreement that was later downgraded to a less lucrative arrangement following what the article described as an extreme lack of interest.
