Michael LaRosa, a former press secretary for former First Lady Jill Biden, deleted his X account Monday following a contentious appearance on C-SPAN in which Democratic callers challenged him over his support for a Republican Senate candidate.
LaRosa has recently become a frequent presence in right-wing media, where he has criticized left-wing Democrats who have scored victories in party primaries. He has also appeared numerous times on Fox News, with appearances resembling those of Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., who has repeatedly criticized members of his own party.
But LaRosa faced sharp criticism Sunday when he appeared on “Washington Journal,” C-SPAN’s straightforward call-in program.
Multiple callers took issue with LaRosa’s decision to support former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race rather than Democratic nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.
One particularly frustrated caller, who identified himself as Michael from Brooklyn, questioned how LaRosa could describe himself as a Democratic strategist while backing the Republican candidate.
“Yeah, I’m just amazed,” the caller said. “You might as well be a Republican.”
The caller argued that Democrats need Michigan if they hope to regain control of the Senate in 2026 and blasted LaRosa for criticizing El-Sayed.
“What’s wrong with you? Are you out of your mind?” the caller asked before adding, “How can you, how dare you?”
By Monday night, Justin Baragona of Zeteo reported that LaRosa had deleted his account on X.
Baragona also pointed to his reporting from the previous week concerning LaRosa’s employment with Ballard Partners, a lobbying firm founded by Brian Ballard.
Ballard has been a major fundraiser for President Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Ballard Partners also operates an office in Israel.
El-Sayed, meanwhile, has said that Israel should no longer receive foreign aid from the United States.
LaRosa’s willingness to break with Democrats is not limited to the Michigan Senate contest.
Last year, during Elon Musk’s purge of the United States Agency for International Development, LaRosa said the action was “probably” illegal but argued Democrats should not turn the issue into a major political battle.
“We don’t have power,” LaRosa said in February 2025.
“This is not the hill we wanna die on, right?” he continued. “The country does not really like foreign aid. I learned this from watching ‘The West Wing’ in the ’90s.”
LaRosa’s recent media appearances and willingness to criticize Democrats have helped make him a notable voice in right-wing media despite his history working for Jill Biden.
But his Sunday C-SPAN appearance demonstrated the backlash he is facing from some Democrats, particularly over his decision to support Rogers instead of the Democratic nominee in Michigan.
Less than two days after callers confronted him on national television, LaRosa’s X account was gone.
