Biden Announces Slew of New Sanctions Against Russia

President Biden revealed on Friday the implementation of over 500 new sanctions aimed at Russia, in response to the two-year anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the recent passing of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

The United States, in collaboration with global allies, has implemented sanctions to limit Putin’s financial resources for the war in Ukraine.

“If Putin does not pay the price for his death and destruction, he will keep going. And the costs to the United States—along with our NATO Allies and partners in Europe and around the world—will rise.” Biden remarked in a statement.

The sanctions are combined with military, economic, and humanitarian aid to support Ukraine in its war against Russia.

The upcoming announcement will feature sanctions aimed at individuals linked to Navalny’s incarceration, as stated by Biden.

The sanctions will also focus on various sectors in Russia, including the financial sector, defense industrial base, procurement networks, and individuals evading sanctions globally.

Almost 100 new export restrictions are being imposed by the U.S., preventing the shipment of items to Russia as a caution to exporters about potential American sanctions for aiding in such deliveries to Russia.
