Trump Goes After Biden Family in Wake of Special Counsel News

Former President Donald Trump reportedly attacked President Joe Biden and the Department of Justice in response to the shocking Friday announcement that Attorney General Merrick Garland had named U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel in the investigation against Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden’s now-famous laptop was subpoenaed when federal authorities in Delaware started to focus on him in 2019 for a money laundering plan.

Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax counts and enter into a pretrial diversion plan in exchange for avoiding a felony gun charge, but the plea deal fell through.

“Crooked Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and the entire Biden Crime Family have been protected by the Justice Department for decades even though there is overwhelming evidence and credible testimony detailing their wrongdoing of lying to the American people and selling out the country to foreign enemies for the Biden Cartel’s own financial gain,” a Trump campaign statement said.

“If this special counsel is truly independent — even though he failed to bring proper charges after a four year investigation and he appears to be trying to move the case to a more Democrat-friendly venue — he will quickly conclude that Joe Biden, his troubled son Hunter, and their enablers, including the media, which colluded with the 51 intelligence officials who knowingly misled the public about Hunter’s laptop, should face the required consequences,” the spokesperson continued.

Weiss, a Trump appointment, oversaw the investigation that led to the failed plea deal.

Republicans on Capitol Hill as well as presidential candidates have extensively criticized the accord between the younger Biden and the Justice Department as a “sweetheart deal.”

The two-tier Justice Department has also come under fire from GOP politicians in the aftermath of Trump being charged with three federal crimes in 2023.

Federal prosecutors and Hunter Biden’s attorneys have reached impasse on the accord as of Friday afternoon, indicating the matter will probably go to trial.
