Former President Trump may spend the rest of his life behind bars if he is found guilty of any of the accusations leveled against him in federal court related to his handling of top-secret materials, according to recent statements from CNN anchor Chris Wallace.
Abby Phillip of CNN had questioned Wallace over remarks made by John Kelly, the former chief of staff for Donald Trump in the White House.
“Well, look, you’d have to be crazy not to be worried,” Wallace said.
“It’s, almost everyone, Republican and Democrat who has any kind of independence has said it’s a very strong indictment. Now, an indictment is not proof. And a lot of people who were indicted end up being found not guilty, but there’s every reason for him to worry,” he continued.
“…as a man who just turned 77, you talk about a jail term, it could be a life sentence … if it were to happen.” he concluded.
The former president, who has entered a plea of not guilty, has criticized his indictment as a political persecution and accused Vice President Biden of using the Justice Department to attempt to “take him out” at a time when most polls have him as the front-runner to win the Republican nominee for president in 2024.
