Trump Blasts Minnesota Leadership and Signals Hardline Migration Stance in Thanksgiving Message

In a sharply worded Thanksgiving post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump delivered a blistering critique of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz while warning that unchecked migration is placing extraordinary strain on the nation.

Trump, voicing frustration over what he sees as a country weakened by political correctness and failed immigration policies, directed his message to Americans who, he said, have watched their nation become divided, disrupted, and undermined.

Trump opened by wishing citizens and patriots a Happy Thanksgiving, describing them as generous people who have tolerated a nation being “carved up” and even “laughed at” due to what he called misguided immigration attitudes. He pointed directly to official census figures placing the foreign population at 53 million, stating that many migrants come from failing states, welfare-dependent communities, prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels. According to Trump’s message, the burden of supporting these arrivals falls on Americans who, because of their goodheartedness, avoid speaking out even as the situation weighs heavily on them.

Trump pointed to one example: a migrant earning $30,000 with a green card who he said would collect roughly $50,000 in annual benefits for their family. He argued that the true number of migrants is far higher than official estimates and blamed this “refugee burden” for a series of national challenges he listed — from failing schools and rising crime to hospital overcrowding, housing shortages, and large budget deficits. He contrasted the present with the post-World War II era, which he described as free of those issues.

Minnesota became a central focus of Trump’s criticism. He claimed that hundreds of thousands of refugees from Somalia have overwhelmed the state, creating conditions where Somali gangs roam the streets while ordinary residents lock themselves indoors, hoping to avoid becoming targets.

Trump then took direct aim at Gov. Walz, describing him as “seriously retarded” and accusing him of either fear or incompetence in the face of these problems. He also denounced Rep. Ilhan Omar, describing her as the worst member of Congress and criticizing her for what he framed as constant complaints about the United States despite coming from a troubled homeland lacking basic governmental institutions. He referenced allegations regarding her immigration background but did not expand beyond the claims included in the original message.

Trump’s post culminated in a policy declaration. In the wake of a shooting in Washington, D.C., where two National Guardsmen were attacked by a suspected Afghan national, Trump said he would move to permanently suspend all migration from what he termed “Third World Countries.” He added that he would remove anyone who is not a “net asset” to the United States.

With his Thanksgiving message, Trump reinforced his longstanding view that America’s current immigration system is unsustainable and that strong-willed leadership is needed to restore order and security.
