The Atlanta Falcons have dismissed assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis following a bombshell report detailing accusations of sexual assault and harassment, marking a swift response from the organization just weeks after his hiring.
Lewis was hired by the Falcons on Feb. 10. On Friday, a little more than two weeks later, the team fired him in the wake of a report published Thursday by journalist Justin Spiro outlining serious allegations against him.
Before joining the Falcons, Lewis coached at the University of Michigan under then-head coach Sherrone Moore. Moore himself was fired in December amid what was described as a bizarre saga involving an extramarital affair with a program staffer. Moore was later arrested after allegedly threatening to kill both himself and the staffer.
According to Spiro’s report, both Lewis and Moore were accused of sexual harassment involving an unnamed woman, referred to as “Jane.” The woman initially reported Lewis’s alleged conduct to Moore. Instead of escalating the complaint, Moore allegedly promoted Lewis and then began harassing the woman himself.
The report states that Moore, described as a mandatory reporter under Title IX and bound by University of Michigan policy, refused to report the alleged assault after the woman confided in him. In the weeks that followed, Moore allegedly sent her a barrage of sexually graphic messages, instructing her to perform various sexual acts.
The allegations against Lewis are also detailed in the report. According to Spiro, Lewis and the woman first connected through a dating app. Shortly after they began communicating, Lewis allegedly started sending threats of physical and sexual violence. One purported screenshot included in the report shows Lewis writing, “You need to feel my wrath,” followed by a lengthy message containing graphic descriptions of sexual violence.
Their first in-person meeting reportedly took place in December 2024 at the Weber’s Inn in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The woman alleged that during that meeting, Lewis beat and raped her. The report included a photograph showing facial injuries that she said were sustained during the alleged assault.
Neither Lewis nor Moore provided comment to Spiro for the report.
On Friday, the Falcons moved to sever ties with Lewis. The decision came quickly after the allegations became public, signaling the organization’s effort to distance itself from the controversy.
Ann Arbor Police confirmed to ESPN that the matter is under investigation.
The situation adds another troubling chapter to the fallout surrounding the Michigan program and its former coaching staff. While the legal process continues and authorities investigate the claims, the Falcons’ decision to terminate Lewis reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the growing scrutiny facing coaches and institutions when such accusations surface.
As the investigation unfolds, questions remain about how the allegations were handled at the university level and what further consequences may follow. For now, Lewis is out of a job, and the case is in the hands of law enforcement.
