Sen. Cory Booker Marries Fiancée in Dual Ceremonies in Newark and Washington, D.C.

Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey announced Sunday that he and his fiancée, Alexis Lewis, were married in two ceremonies held in locations personally meaningful to both of them—one in Newark, the city Booker has long highlighted as central to his political identity, and another in Lewis’s hometown of Washington, D.C.

“Overflowing with gratitude. We said ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us—Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C.—first at the courthouse, then with our families,” the pair wrote in a joint Instagram post. Lewis has updated her name to Alexis Lewis Booker on the platform.

Booker first revealed his engagement in September, describing Lewis as “one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life.” After years as one of the Senate’s most visible lifelong bachelors, Booker used social media to share the news, offering unusually personal reflections for the New Jersey Democrat. He said Lewis had “transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love.”

According to People magazine, Lewis is a 38-year-old director at a real estate investment firm. The couple has largely kept their relationship private, with Booker only occasionally referencing her publicly.

The pair’s quiet, family-centered ceremonies stand in contrast to Booker’s high-profile political life, which has included two presidential bids, national media attention, and a long tenure as one of the Democratic Party’s most prominent progressive voices.
