Representative Thomas Massie, the Kentucky Republican known for his steadfast libertarian streak and deep roots in rural America, reportedly announced that he has remarried, marking a new chapter after the passing of his wife of 31 years last year.
Massie revealed in a post on X that he wed Carolyn Grace Moffa, a former staffer for Senator Rand Paul, on October 19 in Kentucky. The ceremony, officiated by the pastor of their church, was followed by a weekend celebration in Pennsylvania with family, close friends, and several fellow lawmakers.
“Carolyn and I would like to announce our recent marriage! We were legally married in Kentucky on October 19th by the pastor of the church we have been attending for several months,” Massie wrote. “This weekend we celebrated with close friends and family at a Christian wedding ceremony in Pennsylvania where Carolyn is from.”
The congressman, who is running for re-election while facing a Trump-endorsed challenger, described how his relationship with Moffa began more than a decade ago. “Carolyn Grace Moffa and I first met professionally over a decade ago when she worked for Senator Rand Paul,” Massie said. “As Senator Paul’s Ag policy staffer until 2016, Carolyn was a very early proponent and practitioner of Making America Healthy Again.”
He added that Moffa, who has not previously been married, once visited the Massie family farm in Kentucky, where he and his late wife, Rhonda, raised grass-fed cattle. “She even visited me and my late wife Rhonda on our grass-fed cattle farm several years ago,” he wrote.
Massie reflected warmly on his family, noting that his four adult children are all married and that he has three grandchildren. “I have four adult children, who are all married to wonderful people, and three grandchildren from my blessed 31-year marriage to Rhonda, who I still miss every day,” he said.
The wedding festivities featured a personal touch emblematic of the congressman’s rural Kentucky lifestyle. “Of course we served raw milk with the wedding cake and margaritas made with frozen peaches from our farm!” he wrote.
Several members of Congress joined in the celebration, including Senator Rand Paul and Representatives Jim Jordan, Warren Davidson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Victoria Spartz. “However, the real VIPs were my three grandkids,” Massie added. “My oldest grandson was the ring bearer. I proposed to Carolyn on the steps of the Library of Congress, which was the location of our first date.”
Massie concluded his announcement with a request for prayers as he and his new wife begin their life together. “Please pray for us as Carolyn steps into the arena with me. With her support, I look forward to continuing my fight for freedom for the great people of Kentucky!”
The congressman had announced in June 2024 that his first wife, Rhonda, had passed away. “Yesterday my high school sweetheart, the love of my life for over 35 years, the loving mother of our four children, the smartest, kindest woman I ever knew, my beautiful and wise queen forever, Rhonda went to Heaven,” he wrote then.
For Massie, his remarriage appears not as a departure from the past but as a continuation of the values—faith, family, and freedom—that have long defined his public and private life.
