Hunter Biden testified under oath that he allegedly sent a text message to a Chinese businessman inaccurately stating that his father Joe Biden was present in the room at the time.
On Wednesday, the president’s son provided testimony behind closed doors to the House Oversight Committee, with the transcript being released the following day.
An investigation is currently underway regarding Hunter Biden’s business ventures and potential benefits received by Joe Biden from those dealings. Some Republicans have gone as far as to imply that Joe Biden’s father may have accepted a bribe during his time as vice president.
Republicans have highlighted a WhatsApp message from Hunter Biden to Chinese businessman Henry Zhao dated July 30, 2017 – six months after his father’s vice presidency ended.
The article discussed a business obligation that Hunter Biden claimed had not been met and mentioned that Joe Biden was present with Hunter Biden during the incident.
When questioned on Wednesday, Hunter Biden stated that he could not remember sending the message.
He mentioned that if he had done that, his father could not have been sitting next to him because his father was not involved.
“And this why this report from the IRS is absolutely wrong. They’re two different messages. The Zhao that calls me is not related to the message that was sent. I speak to him the next day.” Biden said.
“They’re two completely different sets of messages. One goes a number because, I made the Goddamn — excuse my language again — because I made like an idiot, and I was drunk and probably high, sent a — this ridiculous message to a Zhao, to a Henry Zhao. But then the next day, I speak to a Raymond Zhao, who has never received the message that Henry Zhao got. And so that’s why this report is very misleading in many ways.” he concluded.
