New Poll shows Trouble for Schiff in Democratic Primary Contest for California Senate Seat

In the Democratic primary fight for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) seat, Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) reportedly looks to be gaining ground on Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

In a recent survey by the Public Policy Institute of California, Porter had a 3-point advantage against Schiff. When asked who they would consider voting for regardless of party in California, 16% picked Schiff, while 19% supported Porter.

Notably, this advantage is within the poll’s plus or minus 3.8 percentage point margin of error.

Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA), another candidate for the position, garnered 13% of the vote.

Schiff’s campaign said that he earned a record-breaking $8 million during the second quarter of 2023.

The California Democrat received criticism from his House Republican colleagues last month, which he used to ask voters for donations.

In the end, it paid off, as he collected 144,000 distinct contributors, translating to 233,000 gifts from all 50 states and all 58 counties in California.

His contributions were almost all under $200.

The poll is bad news for Schiff, who recently survived a vote by his House colleagues to censor him for his role in spreading the Trump/Russia conspiracy theory.
