The House Oversight Committee has now reportedly issued subpoenas to various financial institutions, requesting the financial data of the Biden family.
The fact that the Oversight Committee has sent subpoenas to financial institutions such as Bank of America, Cathay Bank, JPMorgan Chase, and HSBC USA N.A., in addition to a former business friend of Hunter Biden’s named Mervyn Yan, has been confirmed by Fox News.
As part of the inquiry, the former business colleague of Hunter Biden, Mervyn Yan, was also called to testify as a witness. In the subpoenas, it is requested that papers be produced that date back almost 14 years.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, a member of the committee, was the one who made the disclosure (D-MD). He penned a memo in which he expressed his displeasure with the way the Republicans on the committee were keeping information about the inquiry from the Democrats.
“Committee Republicans’ decision to conduct this probe behind a veil of secrecy runs counter to the Committee’s traditional commitment to transparency and raises serious questions about the integrity of the investigation,” Raskin wrote.
“Further, Chairman Comer’s furtive actions have resulted in at least one misaddressed subpoena and the release of private citizens’ personal financial information that was compelled by Committee Republicans without any notice to the affected parties,” he continued.
As a reaction, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer of Kentucky, criticized the Democrat from Maryland, stating that he was unlawfully disclosing investigative evidence in an effort to conceal the truth.
“Ranking Member Raskin has again disclosed Committee’s subpoenas in a cheap attempt to thwart cooperation from other witnesses,” Comer shot back in response.
