Melania Trump Unveils Autobiographical Film, Says Project Already a Success

First Lady Melania Trump debuted her new autobiographical film, “Melania,” on Thursday night at the Trump–Kennedy Center, brushing aside concerns about critics or box office numbers and declaring the project a success on her own terms.

Speaking outside the premiere, Melania said she is proud of the finished film regardless of how it is received. “I’m very proud of the film so people may like it, may don’t like it, and that’s their choice,” she said. She added later that from her perspective, the goal of the project had already been met. “We achieved what we want to achieve. For myself, it’s already successful. I’m very proud of what we did.”

Donald Trump attended the premiere alongside his wife, walking the red carpet, which was styled in black to match the film’s black-and-white aesthetic. The president, who has been married to Melania for more than two decades, praised her character and intelligence while speaking with reporters.

“She’s very smart, very measured — sometimes, when I’m not so measured, she measures you,” Trump said, offering a glimpse into their long-standing partnership. At another point, he suggested that the film could help audiences see his wife in a deeper light. “I think they knew she was smart, but perhaps, maybe they’ll get her to see something that elevates her above just the word ‘smart,’” he said, adding that she possesses “a lot of high quality.”

Trump also highlighted the film’s style, saying it recalls a sense of elegance he believes has been missing. “It really brings back a glamour that you just don’t see anymore,” he said. “Our country could use a little bit of that.”

Members of the media were not invited to view the film at the premiere, but several high-profile officials in attendance spoke warmly about the first lady. House Speaker Mike Johnson described Melania as “one of the most gracious people,” while Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said she is “not the caricature that we’ve been fed.”

The film is the result of a multimillion-dollar deal Melania signed with Amazon MGM Studios, and she served as executive producer on the project. Filming began in December 2024 and focuses on the 20 days leading up to her return to the White House, capturing a transitional period that blends public responsibility with private life.

“Melania” is directed by Brett Ratner, best known for helming the “Rush Hour” franchise. The first lady previously spoke about the inspiration behind the documentary while accepting Fox Nation’s “Patriot of the Year” award, describing it as a unique look at a pivotal moment in her life.

She said the film captures “20 intense days of transformation from private citizen to first lady,” while balancing business interests, philanthropy, preparations for the East Wing, and caring for her family.

“Melania” began screening in theaters nationwide on Friday, marking the public release of a project the first lady says has already fulfilled its purpose, regardless of outside judgment.
