Rubio Claims Vance Would be ‘Great’ Republican Presidential Nominee in 2028

Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly offered high praise for Vice President J.D. Vance during an interview over the weekend, calling him a “great nominee” for the Republican Party in 2028 and signaling a unified front within the upper ranks of the Trump administration.

Rubio, speaking to Lara Trump on her Fox News program My View, deflected speculation about his own White House ambitions and instead pointed to Vance — a rising conservative star — as a potential standard-bearer for the GOP. “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee… if he decides he wants to do that,” Rubio said during the Saturday interview.

“I think he’s doing a great job as vice president. He’s a close friend, and I hope he intends to do it.”

Rubio’s endorsement of Vance comes as the Republican Party continues to solidify its post-Trump leadership pipeline, with figures like Vance gaining traction among the party’s populist base for their unapologetically pro-America message and working-class appeal.

Pressed about whether his own aspirations extended “outside the State Department,” Rubio was measured but clear. “I know it’s kind of early,” he said, “but being in the role that I’m in here, as the secretary of State, I really don’t play in politics. There’s actually rules against me being involved in domestic politics.”

Rubio affirmed his commitment to completing his service in the Trump administration, stating that he intends to remain in the Cabinet “as long as the president allows me to do it,” which would likely extend through January 2028.

“And I want to do this job,” he added, emphasizing the importance of America’s renewed posture on the world stage under Trump’s leadership.

Though Rubio didn’t completely rule out a future presidential run, he made clear that personal ambition was secondary to national service. “You never rule things out… because you just don’t know,” he said.

“Things change very quickly.” Still, he noted that if his time at the State Department marked the pinnacle of his public career, he would consider it an honor.

“If I am able to be here through the duration of this presidency — and we get things done at the pace that we’ve been doing the last six months — I’ll be able to look back at my time in public service and say, ‘I made a difference, I had an impact, and I served my country in a very positive way.’”

Rubio’s comments reflect the broader unity and purpose within the Trump administration as it seeks to solidify foreign policy achievements and domestic wins ahead of the 2026 midterms.

With seasoned leaders like Rubio steering America’s global relationships and principled conservatives like Vance gaining momentum at home, the Republican Party is laying groundwork for its next chapter — one that promises strength, clarity, and continuity.
