REPORT: Trump ‘Very Angry’ With Dan Bongino

President Donald J. Trump is reportedly said to be “very angry” with Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino following a tense defiance over the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, according to CNN. The episode marks the latest sign of internal turbulence within the administration’s inner circle.

Over the weekend, Mr. Bongino failed to report to the FBI offices on Friday, having reportedly clashed with Attorney General Pam Bondi during a White House meeting over the DOJ’s July 7 memo.

That memo concluded there was no “client list” implicating high-profile figures in Epstein’s crimes, nor evidence of foul play in his death. Mr. Bongino, who once pushed conspiracy theories, is said to have threatened to resign amid frustration at what he viewed as misleading the public.

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins said that “Trump has been very angry with Bongino, and to a lesser extent, FBI chief Kash Patel.” She also noted that White House staff were texting her Sunday morning: “It was still an open question in Washington… if he was going to be back at the FBI today.”

The uncertainty echoed broader concern over breakdowns in communication between key policymakers and law enforcement officials.

Despite the tension, Mr. Bongino returned to work on Monday. But CNN reports his relationship with the White House had “deteriorated so much” that he “hasn’t spoken to certain White House officials in days.”

One official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Mr. Bongino was still “considering his position” and his future remained unclear.

Speaking to reporters Sunday, President Trump played down any rupture. “I think so,” he said when asked if Mr. Bongino was still in his role. “Dan Bongino, very good guy. I’ve known him a long time… he sounded terrific.” He added that “he’s in good shape,” offering a public vote of confidence that belied the privately expressed dissatisfaction.

The conflict reflects deeper fissures in the conservative movement that had long embraced conspiracy theories around Epstein’s death.

Mr. Bongino and Mr. Patel had fueled expectations of a revealing client list, a promise that was deflated by the DOJ’s memo, which left core MAGA supporters feeling betrayed.

Over the weekend, Mr. Patel sought to reaffirm his loyalty. On X, he wrote, “The conspiracy theories just aren’t true… It’s an honor to serve the President of the United States,” signaling his intent to align publicly with the official narrative.

But for Mr. Trump, the public calm may not reflect his private frustration. According to CNN, the President directed aides to contact Mr. Bongino’s office personally—an unusual step, analysts say, demonstrating his concern.

The episode has underscored a larger challenge: as pressure mounts to deliver on conspiracy-driven promises, the administration must balance its insider faction’s demands with institutional restraint and the weight of official findings.
