Trump Blasts Supreme Court After Unfavorable Ruling

In a striking rebuke, President Donald Trump reportedly lashed out at the U.S. Supreme Court following its decision to block his administration’s attempt to expedite the deportation of Venezuelan detainees.

The court ruled 7-2 against Trump’s invocation of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act, which he had sought to use to facilitate the removal of individuals held in northern Texas.

The ruling, issued on May 16, 2025, requires the case to be sent back to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to address the legal processes available for the detainees to contest their deportations.

Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented, arguing that the court lacked the jurisdiction to interfere in the matter.

Trump’s administration had aimed to deport over 230 Venezuelan men to El Salvador, claiming they posed a significant threat to public safety.

He contended that these individuals were criminals and that their presence in the United States constituted an “invasion,” thus justifying the application of the Alien Enemies Act.

Historically, this statute has been invoked only three times, during the War of 1812 and both World Wars, highlighting its rare and controversial use.

In the immediate aftermath of the ruling, Trump took to social media to express his frustration.

He condemned the Supreme Court’s decision, asserting that it hindered his ability to remove dangerous individuals from the country. In one post, he declared, “THE SUPREME COURT WON’T ALLOW US TO GET CRIMINALS OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!”

In a follow-up message, Trump elaborated on his stance, criticizing the legal processes that he claimed would allow criminals to remain in the country indefinitely.

He suggested that the ruling would enable more criminals to enter the U.S., thereby endangering American citizens. “The result of this decision will let more CRIMINALS pour into our Country,” he wrote, lamenting that the court was obstructing his efforts to fulfill his presidential mandate.

Trump attributed the perceived leniency toward illegal immigrants to the current administration, stating, “Sleepy Joe Biden allowed MILLIONS of Criminal Aliens to come into our Country without any ‘PROCESS.’”

His comments reflect a broader theme in his rhetoric, often tying immigration issues to national security concerns.

The decision has sparked a renewed debate about immigration policy and the judicial system’s role in shaping it. Critics argue that Trump’s approach to immigration policy often prioritizes punitive measures over comprehensive reform.

This ruling marks another chapter in the ongoing saga of immigration policy in the United States, with potential ramifications for both the judiciary and the executive branch as they navigate the complex interplay of law and politics.
