Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has now stated that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) did not merit a second term in leadership and would result in the Republican Party losing its majority in the lower chamber if he were to be reelected.
Massie responded to the former Speaker Newt Gingrich by enumerating the ways in which he believed Johnson had fallen short of his expectations.
“Johnson is not up for this task,” Massie wrote in a recent post on X.
Challenge accepted.
First let me note that the “vote for Mike” camp is not trying to make the case that Mike Johnson is endowed with the qualities necessary to lead our conference. Even you have limited yourself here to procedural justifications for his speakership rather than…

“In closing, the emperor has no clothes and the entire conference knows it but few will say it. The general public knows it too. Please don’t shoot the messengers.” he concluded.
Since the summer, the Kentucky Republican has maintained a fervent opposition to Johnson as Speaker and has recently intensified his stance.
After submitting unsuccessful versions of the most recent continuing resolution, Johnson lost the confidence of certain party members.
The politician is under pressure to affirm his ability to serve as Speaker as a Friday Speakership vote approaches, which carries the risk of being disregarded in the event of an unsuccessful one.
His fate is contingent upon the attendance and roll call status of Members.
