‘Ruth Bader Ginsburg Awards’ Forced to Cancel After Honor Almost Given to Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch

The 2024 Ruth Bader Ginsburg Leadership Award faced cancellation on Monday due to strong opposition from Ginsburg’s family regarding the selection of billionaire Elon Musk and right-wing media magnate Rupert Murdoch as recipients.

The Dwight D. Opperman Foundation, known for its prestigious award, caused quite a stir recently when it announced its recipients.

The award, originally intended to honor influential women, raised eyebrows as it was granted to a diverse group of individuals including Musk, Murdoch, Stallone, and Milken, who had previously been convicted and later pardoned by former President Donald Trump.

Opposition to this year’s list was voiced by Ginsburg’s family and a number of her former law clerks.

In response to the public outcry, the Opperman Foundation made the decision to cancel the awards on Monday.

“The last thing we intended was to offend the family and friends of RBG. Our purpose was only to remember her and to honor her leadership. And, while we believe each of the honorees is worthy of our respect for their leadership and their notable contributions, the Foundation has decided that the planned ceremony in April 2024 will be canceled.” Opperman Foundation chairwoman Julie Opperman stated.
