House GOP Chief Lays Out New Plan to Impeach Mayorkas

On Sunday, a prominent Republican in the House of Representatives delineated the course of action that chambers intend to take in regards to articles of impeachment that they intend to introduce early the following year against Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Homeland Security, for his management of the border crisis.

Mark Green (R-TN), chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, informed Maria Bartiromo of Fox News on “Sunday Morning Futures” that his committee is preparing to conduct a sequence of hearings upon the return of Congress from the holiday recess at the end of the year.

The chairman underscored the methodical approach adopted by his committee in its investigation, which was officially declared in early June.

“We’re going to have about three or four hearings in January, and then we’re going to mark up the impeachment articles that have been written,” Green said.

“There are probably about four or five different members who’ve brought impeachment articles, really rushing the thing to the floor without a due process. And that’s why I think many of those eight voted no. And I have spoken to all eight. Most of them just want a due process to happen. And we have been doing that now for several months. That investigation wraps up this month, and then we will do a proceeding in January.” he continued.

In doing so, the committee has had to strike a delicate balance between accommodating Republican colleagues who have demanded an immediate vote on impeaching the secretary and those who prefer “regular order” in their pursuit of Mayorkas’ removal.

The impeachment effort has been criticized by Democrats as a “political stunt,” despite their support for discussions regarding border security and immigration reforms.
