McCarthy Attacks Gaetz As he Prepares to Exit Congress

Former California House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., took direct aim at with the Republican congressman who spearheaded the effort to remove him from office.

McCarthy challenged the agitator. Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Republican from Florida, told reporters on Thursday that he was “psychotic” and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigates minds similar to his.

“He was psychotic,” McCarty said in reference to Gaetz.

“People study that type of crazy mind, right? Mainly the FBI.” he continued.

It was the most recent blow in McCarthy and Gaetz’s ongoing dispute; Gaetz’s motion to vacate ultimately resulted in McCarthy’s dismissal as speaker of the House.

McCarthy’s critique seemed to allude to the ongoing investigation into Gaetz’s alleged sexual misconduct and misappropriation of his funds by the House Ethics Committee.

As tensions escalated in October in response to Gaetz’s motion to vacate against McCarthy, their relationship appeared strained; ultimately, McCarthy was removed from his position as House speaker.

During the selection process for a new House speaker, McCarthy consistently directed criticism towards Gaetz, an action that ultimately resulted in Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La, assuming the gavel.
