Democrat Lawmaker Arrested for Drunk Driving in L.A.

Multiple reports state that Wendy Carrillo, a candidate for Los Angeles city council and assemblywoman from California, was arrested by police on Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI).

Politico said that the 43-year-old lawmaker acknowledged in a statement that she had struck parked cars before being taken into custody, but that nobody had been hurt and that she was assisting the authorities.

According to jail records quoted by the Associated Press (AP), Los Angeles police officers took Carrillo into custody on a minor infraction after responding to an accident at approximately 12:20 a.m.

In his remarks, Carrillo avoided explicitly addressing the purported DUI arrest.

Carrillo is one of several contenders vying with incumbent Kevin de Leon for the council post.

In October 2022, a recording of De Leon allegedly making racist and insulting comments in conversation with others emerged, causing a scandal.

It appears that De Leon is trying to make his way back from the political desert that the released tapes have cast him in.
