House Delays Vote on Biden Impeachment

The GOP-controlled House reportedly decided to refer articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden to two committees on Thursday.

According to Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), articles of impeachment were introduced with a privileged resolution that would need a vote on the House floor and accuse Vice President Joe Biden of “high crimes and misdemeanors” on the way his administration handled the U.S.-Mexico border.

While several Republicans opposed bypassing committees to vote on impeachment, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reached a deal with Boebert that would enable the process to proceed.

On Thursday, the House Rules Committee’s referral of the resolution to the House Homeland Security and House Judiciary Committees was approved by a party-line vote of 219 to 208.

Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TX) stated that his committee will “dig into the actual actions of the president” in addition to looking into allegations of duty neglect against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

Democrats called the Republican push to impeach Biden “frivolous” and slammed Republicans for it.
