Rep. Dan Crenshaw Attempts to Block Taxpayer Funds From Going Toward Hospital That Performs Gender Transitions on Minors

A new measure to protect children by Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) is reportedly anticipated to be introduced on Friday.

It would extend a program that provides government funds for children’s hospitals, with one catch: no facilities that serve minors who identify as transgender will be eligible.

“‘Gender affirming care’ for minors is indistinguishable from child abuse, and it is quickly becoming the human rights issue of our time. There is no other human rights atrocity in America that is so quickly gaining momentum and validation within the very institutions that should know better,” the congressman said in a statement he gave to the Daily Wire.

“One of these institutions is children’s hospitals. In a place where ‘do no harm’ is the ultimate guiding principle, there is no excuse to ever perform treatments that permanently alter a child’s physiology. From now on, we will not allow a dime of taxpayer funding to go toward children’s hospitals that cater to the harmful pseudoscience that is ‘gender affirming care.’” Crenshaw continued.

The Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education Payment Program will be reauthorized by a measure that the Texas Republican intends to introduce to the House.

The program, which began in 1999, would be continued under the proposed law for five further years through 2028 at a cost of $325 million year.

The initiative offers funds for graduate medical education departments at children’s hospitals to help cover the additional expense of educating resident doctors and dentists.

According to Crenshaw’s plan, any children’s hospital that provides hormone therapy or transgender procedures on minors would be disqualified from participating in the program.

In recent years, transgender ideology and practices have gained prominence in American politics.

Legislation banning explicit transgender content from schools and hospital treatments and procedures is being passed in an increasing number of states.
