Democrat Arrested for Attack on Rep. Matt Gaetz

According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, a woman from Florida was reportedly detained and charged with violence on an elected official after she reportedly threw a glass of wine at Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.

The event happened on Saturday on Florida’s Miramar Beach.

“A 41-year-old Tallahassee woman, Selena Chambers, was arrested after it was found she intentionally threw a glass of wine at Representative Gaetz after shouting obscenities at him. She was charged with battery on an elected official and issued a $1,000 bond. She was released the following day.” Police wrote in a social media post.

According to a police record that ABC News was able to obtain, Gaetz attended the South Walton Beaches Wine and Food Festival.

Others dispute the woman’s account that she slipped and accidentally spilled a drink on Gaetz, who was later identified by authorities as Selena Jo Chambers.

Gaetz claimed to be chatting to someone when Chambers reportedly started yelling at him loudly.

Chambers admitted to drinking to the investigators. Her associate was not detained.

Simple battery is a misdemeanor, while battery against an elected official is a crime. On a $1,000 bail, Chambers was freed.
