Ex-Spy Chief Admits to Plot to Get Former Intelligence Operatives to Sign Letter Blaming Hunter Laptop on Russia

Former acting CIA Director Mike Morell was reportedly persuaded by Joe Biden’s presidential campaign to support Biden by getting 50 coworkers to sign a letter in October 2020 falsely stating that damaging emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop published by The New York Post were Russian misinformation.

Morell testified under oath to the House Judiciary Committee that the senior campaign official who first contacted him “on or before” October 17, 2020, three days after The Post published an email from the laptop that appeared to show Hunter had introduced his Ukrainian business partner to his father, the then-Vice President Biden, was Antony Blinken, who is currently secretary of state.

Morell, who has been mentioned as a prospective successor to Biden as head of the CIA, claimed that he coordinated the letter to aid the Biden because he wanted him to win the election.

Morell told House investigators that up until Blinken’s call, he had no plans to compose a statement clearing Biden.

The signature block of Andrew Bates, the then-director of quick response for the Biden campaign, could be seen at the bottom of Blinken’s email.

Morell collected the signatures of 51 former intelligence officials over the course of the following two days, including John Brennan, Leon Panetta, himself, and four other former CIA directors.

Morell said that he could have spoken to the campaign earlier but couldn’t remember why he told Shapiro the campaign wanted the statement to be sent to this reporter first.

During the debate against President Donald Trump on October 22, candidate Joseph Biden used the letter to deflect questions about his role in his family’s global influence-peddling business, which brought in millions of dollars from China and Ukraine when he was vice president.
