Mike Pompeo, a former secretary of State and CIA director, on Wednesday accused Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) of leaking classified information from his former seat on the House Intelligence Committee.
“Adam Schiff lied to the American people, and during my time as CIA director and secretary of State, I know that he leaked classified information that had been provided to him.” Pompeo said during an interview with Fox News.
Pompeo stated that he “withheld” material from the Intelligence Committee because he “didn’t feel comfortable” working with Schiff’s committee.
Schiff denounced Pompeo’s remarks, calling them ‘false and defamatory.’
Earlier in the week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy formally rejected Schiff’s request to serve on the House Intelligence Committee.
Pompeo, the former United States Secretary of State, CIA Director and U.S. Congressman from Kansas , is considered to be a potential candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
He has not officially announced his candidacy for president, but he has been actively building a political network and has made several appearances at events and rallies, which have been seen as early indicators of a potential run.
Pompeo is also known for his hawkish foreign policy views, including his support for the Iraq War and his hardline stance on Iran.
He has also been a vocal critic of China and has advocated for a strong stance against the country.
Additionally, Pompeo has also been a strong supporter of President Trump and has been seen as a loyal ally throughout Trump’s presidency.
