REPORT: Michael Cohen Gave Lawyer Fake Case Citations

In newly disclosed court documents, Michael Cohen, the former personal lawyer and fixer of President Trump, admitted that he inadvertently provided his attorney with fabricated legal citations generated by the artificial intelligence application Google Bard.

Earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman questioned three case citations that were utilized in a motion to terminate Cohen’s supervised release early.

Cohen served time in prison after pleading guilty to charges including tax evasion and campaign finance violations in 2018.

Furthermore, he stated that in his capacity as a “non-lawyer,” he placed his trust in his legal representative, David Schwartz, to thoroughly examine any recommendations he put forth prior to integrating them into his petition.

Furman, in his order mandating that Schwartz provide evidence that the cases were legitimate, implied that the attorney might be subject to sanctions.

Cohen issued a declaration in support of his attorney, claiming that the error was a “honest mistake.”

Cohen’s inclination towards dishonesty was subjected to severe criticism throughout his testimony in Trump’s fraud prosecution, and this tendency may persist as the former president’s other legal affairs develop.

Cohen is anticipated to testify as a prominent witness in the criminal case involving Trump in New York.
