Former President Trump predicted on Tuesday that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has long been considered his most formidable opponent in the 2024 Republican primary, will soon be forced to withdraw from the race.
In August, when Trump said he’d heard “rumors” that DeSantis would drop out of the race for the White House to run for Senate, DeSantis’ staff pushed back against a similar claim.
“Ron DeSanctimonious has the Poll numbers of a wounded bird falling from the sky. I am up on him by 57 points, and going higher.” Trump wrote on his Truth Social Network.
“He has proven to be a terrible and inept candidate who even fought Social Security and MediCare. He will SOON be out of money and dropping out of the race for President. After having single handidly gotten him elected Governor, with no thanks or glory, it has been a beautiful thing to watch. Good luck Ron!” he continued.
Trump remains the frontrunner in the Republican primary, while DeSantis has long been seen as the runner-up, according to polls.
In recent weeks, however, it appears that the Florida governor’s poll numbers have declined while the former president maintains a commanding lead.
Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley surpassed former Florida governor Ron DeSantis in New Hampshire last month to place second behind Donald Trump.
