DeSantis Seems to Back Controversial Outsider Candidate to be New RNC Chair

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reportedly appeared in an interview on Thursday to support attorney Harmeet Dhillon’s candidacy to become the Republican National Committee’s new head.

DeSantis’ words came only one day before RNC committee members vote in a secret ballot for party posts, including the chairperson.

I think we need a change, I think we need to get some new blood in the RNC, I like what Harmeet Dhillon said about getting the RNC out of D.C. I do think we need some fresh thinking. And practically you need grassroots Republicans to power this organization with volunteering and donations, and I think it’s going to be very difficult to energize people to want to give money and volunteer their time with the RNC if they don’t change direction.” DeSantis said.

DeSantis went on to blame the GOP for defeats in the 2022 midterm elections, despite the fact that they occurred under an extremely favorable political environment.

Following the 2022 midterm elections, the Florida Republican governor received praise from Republicans around the country following reelection by unprecedented percentages.

So far, DeSantis’ backing for Dhillon has been the most visible.

Dhillon’s supporters include Fox News personalities with major clout in the conservative movement, such as Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham.

Former President Trump has so far declined to make an endorsement in the race.
